Defiance finished regular season play with a record of 7-7-2 after a 6-2 win over Wauseon. The Lady Bulldogs were defeated 3-1 by Wapakoneta in sectional play to end with a 7-8-2 overall record for the 1999 season. Guro Larsen scored on a penalty kick drawn by Jessica Yeo. Defiance's overall record for the first three seasons is 21-20-5.
Defiance High School's first ever season with a girls soccer team was during the 1997-1998 school year. The team was coached on the field by Rick Weaver and Brian Hooten while Roger Hartzell helped with weight training and conditioning. The season turned out acceptable results, finishing 6-5-1, including a win in their first ever district game. The second season, all three coaches returned to help, and a j.v. team was also formed. The varsity had another winning season, ending with a 8-7-2 record. This was also the first year for a Western Buckeye League girls soccer division. The j.v. ended up 2-3-1. Jill Weaver (senior), Jessica Yeo (junior) and Katie Hartzell(sophomore) were all voted first team all-league and honorable mention all-district, while Lindsay McNeel (junior) and Abbey Metz (senior) recieved special mention all-league and Rachel Mack (senior) honorable-mention. The 1999 season ended with a 7-8-2 after a sectional loss and a 2-3-1 W.B.L. record for the second straight year. Guro Larsen (senior) and Maggie Hartzell (junior) were named first team all-league, Katie Hartzell (junior) and Emily Rolf (junior) were given special mention all-league and Lindsay McNeel (senior) received honorable mention. Guro Larsen was also named to the second team All-District.
