WQS Caparica 2001
Conditions on saturday (May 5, 2001) morning were far from brilliant; the wind was blowing hard from N, NW and the swell was hardly 1m (3ft). I got to the beach rather late in the morning and the competition was already under way. The tide was full at around 2:00 PM and because of the backwash the competition was interrupted at 12:30 PM and was to be resumed at 3:30 PM, when the backwash would cease. CDS beach (where the event is being held) as many beaches in front of Caparica town have this backwash issue. I only got to see three heats and when the competition was interrupted I decided it was time to get me some waves. Among the competitors in these heats were Eric Rebiére (the highest ranked WCT surfer in this event), Ugo Benghozi and Ruben Gonzales (among the most promising Portuguese young surfers).
