Smackdown Unlimited pitching struggles continue

Smackdown, one of 20 teams in the CyberLeague of United Teams (CLOUT), entered 2005 looking to improve upon their 3rd-place finish in 2004. Unfortunately, the pitching has been inconsistent, and two of the team's "three aces"--Jason Schmidt and Kerry Wood--have been hurt.

Triplets off to fine start in AL, need more punch in NL

The Evansville Triplets field American League and National League rosters in Homer Bush Baseball. Pitching has been a strong suit in both leagues, with Jon Garland (8-0) turning the AL on its ear while Dontrelle Willis (7-1) has returned to dominance in the NL. The hitting has been disappointing, particularly in the NL where SS Nomar Garciaparra and OF Lance Berkman have been punchless.

Slobberknockers prepare to defend first-ever BDFL title

The San Francisco Slobberknockers went from one of the league's worst teams to BDFL Champions in just three years, culminating in a narrow victory over the Detroit KAOS in the BDFL Championship in January. This season, the team is already contending with a big distraction, as RB Onterrio Smith is rumored to be suspended for the season due to multiple violations of the team's drug policy.

Terminators prepare for 2005

The Detroit Terminators won the East Division title in 2004 despite a crummy 6-8 record. Player re-signings will be announced this summer, although rumor has it that RB Jamal Lewis and WR Chad Johnson should return.

Blaze tries to follow up on incredible 2004 season

After ringing up 7-6-1, 7-7 and 7-7 records from 2001 to 2003, the Chicago Blaze appeared to be headed for a fall after RB Charlie Garner suffered a knee injury in Week 3. But two weeks later, the Blaze began an amazing 7-2 run that led to their first-ever playoff berth. In May, Chicago signed three rookies in an effort to build upon its success: RBs Vernand Morency and T.A. McLendon and WR Vincent Jackson.

Renaissance take another title shot

The Detroit Renaissance (from Rob Hughes' All-Internet League) have been the Dale Earnhardt (Sr.) of this fantasy football league. In nine seasons, the team has made seven league semifinal trips, including two to the HAIL Bowl, but have yet to win it all. The team looks to retool in this year's upcoming draft, particularly because its top player for the last three seasons, WR Terrell Owens, is threatening to hold out.

Xtreme ready for 2005

The Detroit Xtreme, the newest entry in the Greatest Internet Fantasy Football League (GIFFL), made the playoffs in 2004, going to the league semifinals before falling to the eventual league champions, the FFB Wizards. This year's team looks to have a stronger running game, with veterans Ahman Green and Curtis Martin backed up by fifth-year man LaMont Jordan.
