In this chamber, I attempt to provide quality links to research materials which I found to be extremely useful and relevant. Besides my course (BA - Communications and Media Management) readings, the Internet has been a useful resource for my research. In my spare time, rare though, I love reading autobiographies and motivational books, as it allows me to enter the imaginable world of others and learn from their experiences, which I've been told one of the wisest thing to do, as it's less painful. Besides, it may take someone a lifetime to write a book and all it takes is a day or two to read a book.
Achieving academic excellence has and will always be an obsession for me. I find it mentally stimulating and exciting acquiring new found knowledge. In Singapore, education is one of the key concerns of the Government as we are totally dependent on human resources rather than natural resources to stay competitive globally, which a knowlege-based society is an absolute necessity. Constant changes were implemented in the best education system to find the ideal education suited for and peculiar to our culture and society,in line with the ideologies of the Government. However, it is extremely difficult and an uphill task finding the balance between encouraging critical thinking among our students and at the same time, retaining traditional cultures, which are in constant conflict. For example, critical and creative mind requires expressing and questioning characteristics but the cultivation of our culture and society's acceptance is to be tolerant and not to be too outspoken. Will one be compromised for the other? We have to wait and see.
