ABOUT ME!?

What? Want me to introduce myself and tell you who I am? This must be pretty BoRiNG! But if you still insist on that, then I don't have much choices left ....

O.K .... I'll start off with some intro. (Haha, hope that you won't fall asleep while reading!)
My full name is Tan Jin Chong. From my name, I'm positive that you already know that I'm a Chinese, right? 'Tan' is my sirname while 'Jin Chong' is my lastname. Most of friends call me 'Jin Chong' and some of them call me 'Chong' only!

I was born on the 26 March 1976. So, I'm now 21. I can speak and write in English, Mandarin and Malay. Both my parents are teachers. Ahh yes ... almost forget to tell you that I'm from Kedah, Malaysia.

Well, hmmmm....what else to tell?

I'm an undergraduate of University Technology Malaysia (UTM), Johor. I study Mechanical Engineering and option in Materials Science & Engineering. If you want to find out more about my course then come and visit The Mechanical Engineering Faculty in UTM . It's a 5 year course because I entered the university after my Secondary 5 (in 1994). The 1st year is actually a Pre-U. I am now in my 4th year. So, I'll be doing my thesis next year and will be graduating in 1999. Now (1997), while doing my undergraduate studies I'm persuing my Master's degree in Engineering Management. This master's course will take 4 semesters to complete.

During the semesters, I live in a rented house situated about 4km from the campus. During my first year, I stayed inside the campus. But, since my 2nd year, most of us (I mean seniors) have to stay outside the campus. This is because the hostels inside the campus are reserved for the first years only. It takes me around 10 minutes to travel from my house to the campus. I go to the lectures by bike. By the way, the address is:

In my freetime, I like to watch TV, go for a jog, listen to music and play computer games. About music, my favourite album is Enigma 3 . It's so mysterious and unique! Besides that, my favourite artists are Yanni , Kitaro , Bon Jovi , Celine Dion and many more..... I usually listen to music while doing my homework or assignments. My favourite TV series are The X-Files (Reason: The Truth Is Out There!) and Millennium . Besides that, I also enjoy watching movies. About computer games ... hihi ... I like to play adventure games. So far, I've completed 5. They are BioForge, Bad Mojo (The Roach Game), Time Commando, Time Lapse and Tomb Raider.

Yes, have to tell you this: Before I come and study in university, my hobby is keeping tropical fish. But the sad news is that all of them are dead by now because no one look after them after I left my home! Sad...sad... :(

Do I look like an engineer?

Here is a pic of ME (group leader) with my group members after an Industrial Design presentation. The red bike in front of us is a full scale model (or perhaps a prototype!) that we had designed and built together.

OK, here is another pic of me going through our design report just before the presentation began. (Hehe....I didn't even know that someone was taking a pic of me!) As a leader, I'm the one who will present out project in front of our 2 lecturers.

Below are 2 photos showing a solar car built by the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of UTM: This is the first Malaysian made solar car. The left photo shows the framework of the solar car while the right photo shows the completed vehicle on a test drive. This car took part in The Solar Car Race held in Australia last year.

So, anybody want to have a free ride on a sunny day?
