Drumline Terms

Have you ever noticed that drummers have their on "language" to describe a lot of things? Well, we decided it would be cool to dedicate a place to put all the terms we use along with terms used by other drumlines. So, if you have a cool term or saying that your drumline uses, send it to me and it will get put on here.


TERM MEANING
"burn it" to increase the tempo
"reef it" to increase the tempo dramatically
"don't suck" play it sweet
"play it sweet" don't suck
"to be in" to play in synch with the line
"to tick" to play out of synch with the line
"ticker" someone who always ticks
"piss clean" to play so clean it sounds like someone pissing
"86 it" you all suck so take that part out
"crank it" to tighten a drum head till near the point of breaking
"dut" a loud vocal projection used to keep time
"hype" to nod your head firmly or yell loudly after playing well
"throwing down" playing with excitement and perfection
"clean" drum parts executed well; sounds like one drum; no tickers
"gray" drum parts played somewhat decent; some sounds static; 1 to 2 tickers
"dirty" drum parts played badly; sounds like butt; all tickers
"wet" snare drums tuned with loose guts
"coffee table" snare drums tuned with tight guts
"blow a head" drum head exploding due to high tension
"terp is baked" bad interpretation
"race like a piss horse" go to the bathroom
"(name) chowed it" that person ticked a lick
"cheese hose flam" general saying for playing the book
"the book" all the music in a show
