About the Instructor

Doug Dooley began his work in the Networking Industry starting in 1995 at Nortel Networks (at that time it was know as Northern Telecom) in Research Triangle Park, NC as a software systems engineer while attending school at Virginia Tech majoring in Computer Engineering.  In 1998, he took an internship at Intel Corporation in Folsom, CA as a systems programmer.  Upon graduating cum-laude from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor in Science in Computer Engineering in 1999, Doug accepted a job at Cisco Systems in San Jose where he received extensive training and a CCNA certification.  Doug went onto to work at ICG Communications, Inc. in San Jose as a supervisor of the Network Management Development group which designs and builds systems that support Operations, Engineering, and Network Architecture groups.

Doug is currently employed at Inktomi Corporation (NasdaqNM:INKT) as a Technical Marketing Manager focusing on the Enterprise line-of-business. Inktomi Corporation provides scalable software applications designed to significantly enhance the performance and intelligence of large-scale networks, particularly the Internet. Its applications fall into two broad categories, network products and portal services. Network products applications consist of the Traffic Server network cache platform, Content Delivery Suite and associated Traffic Server extensions. These products are intended to provide a complete infrastructure solution for the distribution, delivery and management of content and applications. The Company's current portal service applications include search, shopping and directory services, and are offered to Internet portal and Website customers.

Doug is very enthusiastic about the Internet and what it can do for all people.  Doug's three main goals for teaching this course are:

  1. Stay in-tune with the community's outlook of both the Internet and technology. 
  2. Empower people with knowledge that can help their careers and their lives.
  3. Have Fun!
