There
has been a residential community of missionaries, principals, teachers,
students, and helpers throughout it's history and from the time of the
first Principal Rev Daniel Poor.
The
college colors Crimson and Gold depicts the quality of men and women who
have labored relentlessly to make this institution one of the finest in
Sri Lanka. It also represents the ideals every student is expected to
aspire. Crimson being the color of blood represents hard work, sacrifice
and service whilst gold symbolizes the solid, brilliant, sterling
qualities of character.
Academic
excellence for all students being the goal, the College over the years,
has produced more than its share of scholars, university dons,
principals, teachers, doctors, engineers, journalists, and other
professionals.
In
the field of sports, participation and sportsmanship, team work, and
discipline were more emphasized than mere winning. Students are
encouraged and participate in sports like soccer, cricket, basketball,
hockey, and volleyball.
Students
are encouraged to practice freedom of expression and thought. The
literary associations and and student paper "young Idea" gave
practical expressions to this notion. From the onset all students
leaders, members of student council, captains of the sports teams and
class monitors are elected by the students by secret ballot. From early
age students are encouraged to express their thoughts and actively
participate in the democratic process of electing their leaders.
Jaffna

These institutes have been resourceful for youths looking for some
avenues of training and employment,
The
Board of Trustees of Jaffna College Funds was established and
incorporated into the Laws of Massachusetts in Boston in 1877. The
continuity of the revered institution has been miraculously maintained
through years. The destinies of the College have been remarkably guided
by a very energetic and vigilant Board of Directors in Vaddukoddai; a
benevolent Board of Trustees of Jaffna College Funds in USA.
