History
The idea of establishing Victoria University's Thai Students Association - VUThai had emerged from a small discussion between Thai students, who were studying a degree at Victoria University, during the semester break in 1999. As a result, the first unofficial meeting was organised in July 11th 1999 at Buarluang Thai Restaurant. Nineteen Thai students attended the meeting. The aims of this meeting were to find out the possibility to establish the association and to discuss the objectives of VUThai .
VUThai had indentified two main purposes: firstly, it is to serve as a centre for Thai students who are studying at Victoria University for activities, recreation, and those who need advice or assistance for their studies. VUThai will work as a medium for Thai and others students to exchange or to distribute usefulo information. The second purpose is to cooperate with Victoria University Students Union (VUSU) in any activities including other clubs both with in and outside Victoria University.
On July 15th, the second meeting took place on 9th floor, Victoria University City Campus. The list of thirty Thai students, who were interested to be members, had been collected and was presented. In addition, the staff was elected from twenty members of the meeting.
One week later, fifty-four Thai students had joined VUThai. In addition, the idea of 'Opening Party' was discussed in the Third meeting at VU City Campus. Then, the party was held on August 1st, 1999 near the Yarra River. Over thirty members of VUThai joined the party. The party was for officially introducing both VUThai and the staff to members, and also informing the members what exactly VUThai was going to do.
