About
About The Tiger Marching Band
The largest and most visible ensamble in the School of Music is the LSU Tiger Marching Band,
the famed "Golden Band From Tigerland." With an annual membership of
325 musicians,
Golden Girls, and
Color Guard members,
the Tiger Marching Band is the largest and most prestigious organizations
at LSU. The LSU Band recently was unamimously selected as the #1 Band in the Southeastern
Conference by the SEC band directors themselves. The full band performs at all
home football games and accompanies the team on selected out-of-town trips and any post season game each
year with all expenses paid for bandsmen. Smaller Pep Bands accompany the team to the remaining out-of-town games. Over the past few years the band
has appeared at the Peach Bowl and twice at the Independence Bowl along with
regular regional and national television appearances in the last 25 years.
Tiger bandsmen are provided with uniforms and instruments, and
each member receives a $640 music activities award.
Participation in the Tiger Marching Band counts for course credit as MUS 4250.
The band rehearses Tuesday through Friday from 3:40 to 5:10 p.m. and game-day
Saturdays from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Tiger Band membership is open to all
incoming freshman and qualified students enrolled in the University.
Upperclassmen and transfer students must have a 2.0 cumulative grade-point
average in order to be eligible for the LSU Tiger Band.
