Hop on board the Satelite of Love for some fast paced comedy! Mystery Science Theater 3000 is a hilarious show and has been a favorite of mine since season 3! (I have yet to see any of the season 1 or 2 episodes because we didn't have cable at that time.) Now, in it's 8th season, MST3K has a huge cult following. That's why, when Comedy Central decided to cancel it after season 7, the fans were outraged. The Sci-Fi Channel wisely picked it up and now it's one of the highest rated shows on the station! Go everyone at Best Brains!
MST3K is the brain child of Joel Hodgins and started out as a very low budget comedy on a local access cable channel in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Joel, Kevin Murphy and Jim Malon were the writers, producers, prop-men, and actors of the show. Joel pieced together the first prototypes of his "robot friends", Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, the night before the first episode was shot. Soon, Comedy Central picked the show up and MST3K became. . .A low budget cable comedy!!
If you've never seen the show, Joel and the bots (later Mike Nelson after Joel decided to leave after season 5) are forced to watch really horrendous, cheesy movies by "the mads"--Dr Forrester and TV's Frank. In order to keep their sanity, they "riff" at the screen--making hilarious comments through out the entire movie.
I've read the at least 20 times and always laugh till tears roll down my cheek every time. It's sooo hilarious! I suggest all fans should run out and buy this book.
I haven't joined the fan club yet (too lazy to send out a postcard), but it IS stationed in Hopkins, MN~~where my dad grew up. Yes, I'm a Minnesotian so even get their obscure joke references. hehe. All episodes of MST3K are filmed in Eden Prarie--where more relatives live. So, in a small way, I feel connected to the making of the show.
I'll add more when I check the titles!
