St Aug...Go fig, huh?

St Augustine is a nice town if you like really, really old buildings and dodging tourists. Avoiding the day-glow sticker wearing tour groups has become the national past time at Flagler. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it is an art. If you're a slow walker, you'll be forced to field questions from the above mentioned tourists.

"To your left is Flagler College, built in 1881 by Henry Flagler..." The horse drawn carriage people give that spiel soooooo many times that it's hard NOT to memorize it. Usually, the streets smell like horse hocky, but I'm sure the same smell was all over the place in the hey-day of the Ponce de Leon Hotel. It became Flagler College in 1969.

As I write this (May 2000), I graduated in April with degrees in Secondary Education, English, and Creative Writing. I work at the Spanish Quarter Museum and hope to find a teaching job in St. Johns County. I've adopted St. Aug as "home" so live here full time. Flagler and the city has a way of sucking people in and not letting them go without a fight.
