In the Time of the Butterflies

A powerful novel based on the true story of the Mirabal sisters who were martyred under the Dominican Republic's Trujillo dictatorship in 1960. The story traces the lives of the sisters from their late childhood up to the deaths of three of the sisters and the survival of the fourth sister.
Based on reading this novel, students will participate in discussion sessions during Phase 2 Orientation in August and may discuss the novel and its themes in other classes. Study guide material will provide background information and will help focus student thinking about the reading.
