4th Asia Karate Federation
Championship (AKF) 1999
Malaysia Goshin-Ryu Karate struck
victory again, adding to their list of medals. Six Goshin-Ryu karatekas
represented our country in the recently organized "4th Asia
Karate Federation (AKF) Championship" as part of the twenty-strong
Malaysian karate team.
Consisting of three men and three
women, the Goshin-Ryu national athletes battled against karaatekas from 27
other nations in the three day event (1-3 December, 1999) at Toa Payoh Sports
Complex, Singapore. They managed a one silver and two bronze victory under the
guidance of national kata coach, Shihan Lim Chee Jin.
Goshin-Ryu karateka, Sensei Lim Lee,
clinched the silver medal in the Women's Individual Kata event. Karatekas from
Japaan and Indonesia won the gold and bronze medals respectively in this event.
In the Women's Team Kata event, Malaysia emerged with third placing after Japan
and Indonesia.
The other bronze medal was
contributed by Sensei Ku Jin Keat in the Men's Individual Kata event. The first
place in this event fell to the Japanese team, followed by the Iranian team.
Malaysia also attained forth placing in the Men's Team Kata event, losing only
0.1 point to the Indonesian team. Japan and Iran won the first and second
placing respectively.
The Malaysian Women's Team Kata was
represented by Sensei Lim Lee, Jaclyn Ch'ng and Ng Suet Fen. The Men's Team
Kata, however, was represented by Sensei Ku Jin Keat, Yeoh Swee King and James
Ch'ng.
