The DVD JukeBox

Welcome to The Jukebox, an active list of DVDs that tops my lists of favorites and I hope they also have the same effect on you.
Feel free to browse and learn about DVDs.  Enjoy!

DVD stands for Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc, a CD-sized disc that can store close to five gigabytes of information
per side.  DVDs offer a better picture and sound than either videotape or laserdisc. They have 500 lines of resolution compared to
videotape's 250, and they feature multi-channel audio tracks. In addition, because a feature-length movie will typically fit on just
one side of a DVD, the DVD is able to offer a whole host of extra goodies you wouldn't get on laser or video - like commentary by
directors and stars, optional subtitles (typically Spanish and/or French), interactive menus, and additional language tracks.

Online Store Reviews

Here's a run down of some of the major online DVD retailers. To help you find the best prices, check these out:

            Reel.com
Known for their great coupons and 50% off their Top 10 sellers, Reel.com is a great spot to catch a bargain.  Sometimes a little slow to process an order, Reel still is a strong choice for ordering DVD's. Reel.com also price matches.

            800.com
The Most well known for their 3 for a $1 promotion (which ended Dec '98), 800.com hasn't made lots of friends, taking their time getting the offers shipped, but normal orders seem to turn around well and 800.com's price is usually the one to beat. You can't lose with their free shipping!

              BigStar.com
A solid store with decent prices. Stands out from the pack because of Free Video Offers with a purchase of $15. Also has at least 3 or 4 titles at VERY low prices!

            Amazon.com
You know them as a book store, so how are they at DVD's? Just OK. Prices are usually a little high, and their shipping charges add up. Usually not my first choice for DVD shopping.

            DVDExpress
DVDExpress consistently delivers on time and are great about resolving issues. A real plus that they tell you if a DVD is in stock.

            Shopping.com
Very poor customer service, and very slow to ship, but with their top 10 DVD's a just over $12 it's worth a look. I usually have DVDExpress price match Shopping.com and give them my business. (Just bought by Compaq computers so we'll see if there is any improvement.)

            BuyVideos.com
Cheap DVD's, high shipping charges. Sometimes the two even out to a great deal. My one grip: it's impossible to find what you're looking for (even if they carry it).

              DVDWave
Another DVD store with strong discounts. Unique in that they also RENT DVD's.
