The Origin Of Life
The Origin Of Life

Darwin taught us in
The Origin of Species that all of life is descended from one
common ancestor. Looking at the great diversities of organisms existing today, it is
hard to imagine how all living species today evolved from one ancient life form. More
difficult to picture yet, is how this very first life itself originated from its non-living
surroundings of the early Earth.
Through the human history, many different attempts to explain this enigmatic
question of the origin of life have been made by different
scientists and philosophers,
some (to us) bizarre, some more logical. Today, combining the accumulated
knowledge from the past and the continuing discoveries with the aid of modern
technology, one applausible hypothesis has been proposed with most of the scientists
today subscribing to it. This hypothesis has been widely accepted because it explains
not only how, but as well as why, life originated using knowledge from different fields
of science including paleontology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, astronomy, etc.
This page has thus been created with an effort to "link" different theories and findings from the aforementioned fields of science to give a complete picture of what, why, when, and how things happened in the very beginning of time that eventually led to the creation of life.
Now, please select one of the trips listed below, or hop on the time machine and cruise around to see what happened in the very beginning...
