My name is Jaime Gomez-Gutierrez.  I was born at Distrito Federal, México in December 15, 1964. Since September 1998, I am a Ph.D. student from College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Science, Oregon State University. I have been granted by CONACyT (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología, México) and by SNI level I (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores). My permanent work is at Centro Interdisciplinario de Ciencias Marinas where I'm a researcher "titular C".

I studied Marine Biology (1985-1989) at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, La Paz, B.C.S. México and a Master in Science in Marine Ecology (1990-1992) in Centro Interdisciplinario de Ciencias Marinas del Instituto Politécnico Nacional.

Most of my research has been about the ecology of zooplankton in upwelling ecosystems, with special emphasis on dynamic population of the euphausiids "krill", copepods, and decapod larvae (Brachyura and Galatheidae). Since 1993 to 1998 I worked some aspects of diel vertical migration of fish schools and zooplankton aggregations using an hydroacoustic echosounder (SIMRAD EY-200) and estimated the  secondary production of euphausiids and copepods along  the west coast of Baja California and the Oregon upwelling area. My scientist "hobby" was to study a rare isopod Oculophyxus bicaulis (Shield and Gómez-Gutiérrez, 1996), which is an euphausiid's parasite belonging of the family Dajidae. Currently I'm interested to study dynamic population, secondary production, and larval ecology of the euphausiids in the Oregon upwelling system. Also I'm studying the hatching mechanisms of the euphausiid's embryos for broadcast and brood-sac spawning euphausiid species in the California Current System. Parasitism on euphausiid is our new and exciting research challenge focised on apostome ciliates.

In 1992 I  was honored with the "Presea Lazaro Cardenas"  granted by the Instituto Politecnico Nacional. It's  was exciting to extent the hand with then Mexico's President Carlos Salinas de Gortari (1988-1994).
