It is estimated that the top twenty one drum and bugle corps perform for 4,000,000 people, including live performances and PBS broadcasts that are shown year-round.
Corps members work diligently, dedicating much of their time during the winter and their entire summers to rehearsing and performing. They travel approximately 12,000 miles each summer by bus, sleeping on gymnasium floors and eating from chuck wagons. Their travels take them across the country to compete against corps from the United States, Canada and Europe. They are judged on musical excellence, technique and visual effectiveness.
Each year the top drum corps in North America become members of Drum Corps International. To achieve a place in DCI is an honor, one that is cherished by member corps.
