Planning Proposal 1.0

This provisional web site displays work in progress toward defining a proposed Master of Arts in Sustainability Studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey. The web site provides convenient access to an unofficial core group of faculty and must not be regarded as either final or official. Related Activities

Certificate programs: A demonstrated need for mission-related certificate programs has become apparent. We are prepared to explore this avenue. An advantage of these programs, such as in radiation detection and amelioration in the Highlands Region, is that such certificate programs can be administered through the Ramapo College Sustainability Center, can be implemented relatively rapidly, and can generate revenue before the MASS can be put into full operation.

We should also explore offering an on-line program to supplement parts of MASS. This option must obviously be deferred until further program development. An immediate prospect is to facilitate the participation of international students so that their stay in the USA can be shortened to one year rather than two.

The Sustainability Support Network: (tentative) The initiation and development of the Master of Arts in Sustainability Studies requires significant community and civil society outreach activities, appropriate for a state-supported college. The curriculum anticipates the generation of a supportive ensemble of experts in sustainability. Outside reviewers will be needed for assessment and program review. An outreach program, especially targeted for an international audience, must be nurtured by the following activities:
