Haile Selassie I was born on July 17, 1891 in Haraar, Ethiopia.  He became king of Ethiopia on October 27, 1928 ruling with Empress Zauditu.  He became emperor after her death in 1930.  His birth name was Tafari Makonnen.  His father was governer of the Harrar province , and Tafari took on the same position in 1910.
He was a descendent of Menelik I, the son of King Soloman and ancestor of all Ethipoian kings.He married the great-granddaughter of Menelik II in 1912.  In 1917, after King Lij Yasu was deposed and Zauditu was proclaimed empress, Tafari became regent, and heir to the throne.  He took the name Haile Selassie meaning (Power of The Trinity) when he was crowned emporer of Ethiopia on November 2, 1930.  In October of 1935, Italian troops invaded Ethiopia.  Selassie's army was unable to repel them and on May 5, 1935, the Italians captured Addis Ababa, Ethiopias capital.  Selassie fled to Britian, and in June of 1936, he appealed to the League of Nations to impose military sanctions against Italy.  His plea was ignored by the League of Nations.  The League of Nations imposed mild economic sanctions on Italy but failed to enforce even that limited measure.  In 1938, Britian recognized King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy as emperor of Ethiopia.  Haile Selassie spent the next two years in exile in England.  Italy entered WW II in June of 1940 on the side of Germany, and Selassie was given recognition as an ally of Britian.  He returned to Ethiopia to lead troops cooperating with the British to drive the Italians out of Africa.  He enetered Addis Ababa victoriously on  May 5, 1941. Haile Selassie was a key figure in setting up the Organization of African Unity, formed at a meeting of Africa's head of state in Addis Ababa in 1963.  On August 27th, 1975, in Addis Ababa the death of the Emperor was announced.  His body was never seen in public, nor his burial place revealed.  Many of his former subjects do not, it is said, even now believe that Haile Selassie is really dead but expect him, as a semilegendary figure, to 'COME AGAIN.'

Although I man have not declared Rasta long, I man have found such love and untiy in the way of life.  I have searched high and low for a religion that is for ALL people.  I have found bad in alot of religions, but not RASTA.

         *They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave              of the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in theflesh.                          (Leviticus 21:5)
