Energy Efficiency: Projects and Resources Hemp Facts

Hemp products can be used to provide more economical, and bio-friendly replacements for oil, cotton, trees, synthetic materials, aluminum and steel.
1900
Dr. Rudolph Diesel shows off his new invention, the diesel engine, at a large international fair. His fuel: peanut oil.

1917
Hemp decortication machine is patented by George W. Schlicten. This key invention is a labor saving device that allows for affordable processing of non-drug hemp. This innovation, in the 1920s and 30s, was beginning to allow family farms to compete with oil, cotton, trees, synthetic materials, aluminum and steel.

1937
After years of sensationalistic journalism by corporate-led newsmedia, the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 was passed.
Congress was assured that this law would not affect non-drug family hemp farmers. Unfortunately, 23 years later, in 1960, the last hemp farm in America quit growing hemp....Why?  Confusion (about the difference between hemp and marijuana), intimidation, and red-tape.

The decades old marijuana scare stops non-drug hemp from competing with oil, cotton, timber, synthetic, aluminum, & steel industries. How can we peacefully correct things for the better?
By intelligent applications of both knowledge and wealth in refreshingly new directions.
