Being the aviation fanatic that I am, I took over a whole roll of pictures from my window seat on the Airbus A320 we flew to LAX. These are some of my favorites:
A town somewhere in Appalachia, as seen from 35,000 feet above.
This is either the Arkansas or the Mississippi River.
A canyon somewhere in Arizona.
I was astounded by the sheer size of the LA area. It's a constant, solid metropolitan sprawl for miles and miles. The buildings began when we were still really high up. Notice the lovely smog.
A neat panoramic shot I took of a highway stretching to the horizon.
As we descended, my face was still plastered to the window. I noticed how all the houses were tightly packed together. Not my idea of a comfortable neighborhood!
This is the San Diego Freeway, which runs all the way through LA to (surprise) San Diego. LA natives like Mike's aunt Peggy call it "The 405."
And, finally, here's the view as the plane touched down at Los Angeles International Airport, or LAX. Recognize it from the movies? It's been in plenty. I had always wondered what that weird white arch thingy was; turns out it's a restaurant.
