The Singles Collection

   Let's face it, singles are a waste of time. If somebody buys a record on single, this means that:

(A). The album is reckoned to be rubbish, or of unknown quality;
(B). The single predates the album and is so good that the purchaser simply can not wait that long;
(C). The band is strange and is not putting out an album;
(D). Other (the purchaser is foolish??).

   Below are the very few singles I have bought over my lifespan, only amounting to about one for every two years. Each one is either brilliant or holds strong memories of the period when it was released and played. Sparing you more adulation, I'll just say I stand by them all.

1.   Ghostbusters Theme (Ray Parker Junior)

    Probably a birthday or Christmas present, as I must have been about 8 years old and on 40p a week pocket money.

2.  Fire/ Jericho (Prodigy)

    After another 8 quiet years, I was finally intrigued enough to buy a second record, this EP. Double A-side with inventive remixes.

3.  Everybody in the Place (Prodigy)

    Equally as good, and featuring two B-side tracks which were in fact better than the main work.

4.  The Gift (INXS)

    Not their most famous single ever, but my favourite.

5.  Hyperballad (Bjork)

    Where did this concept come from? Mars? Highly original.
Recently ripped off in an internet train bookings ad.

6.  Holding onto You (Terence Trent D'arby)

    If you didn't hear this song when released you missed out.

7.  Higher State of Consciousness (Josh Wink)

    (Comments?)

8.  Bully Boy (Shed Seven)

    Spirited song, excellent subject matter.

9.  Disco's Revenge (Gusto)

    Make up your own lyrics! Repetitive but popular.

10.  Sexy Boy (Air)

    My most recent purchase. Completely ripped off in a Mars Ad.
