KAPPA Mu History
~Our Story~
Ideologies
closely similar to why Kappa Alpha Psi was founded at the University of Indiana spurred the need
at The State University of New York at New Paltz. However, in this case, Kappa Alpha Psi was
emerged as the first Greek organization at New Paltz. Thus, the dream of seven students materialized in Spring 1979
as a great accomplishment.
Nevertheless, their work was not complete. Not only did these brothers realize the importance of personal achievement, they believed that the objectives of
the university, the community, and fraternity could be better met if they were supported. They quickly founded the Student Greek Organization
and attracted other fraternities, sororities, and organizations in efforts to bond themselves with others who were not as privledged to
be members of Kappa Alpha Psi, but who felt the need for involvement in the community and on campus. Today there are over 25 different Greek organizations on the New Paltz campus.
History seems to repeat itself... In late 1997, a few cadets short on support but determined and persistent felt that the ideals
held high in Kappa Alpha Psi could benefit the community around the United States Military Academy. Although the struggle was hard, the achievement minded cadets successfully
joined the existing Kappa Mu chapter at SUNY- New Paltz and spearheaded the chapter's growth on West Point in the Spring of 1998 with the help of the Poughkeepsie Alumni Chapter.
And Kappa Mu lives today, always working for the good of the community... And our work is never done!
