Christmas Carolfest '99
As part of UERM’s Yuletide celebrations, the Mu Lambda Fraternity and Mu Lambda Sorority sponsored the 21st annual Christmas Carolfest last December 15, 1999. Five choirs joined this event (Med 2003A, 2003B, 2002A/2001, 2002B and Physical Therapy). Each choral group, composed of at least 15 members, was required to sing the concert piece, “Emmanuel” and a piece of their choosing. Judging their musical talents were Rod Araneta, Sheila Francisco and Sweet Plantado, all of whom are practicing professional musicians.
After the brief opening remarks by Dr. Adrian Peña, the contest was well under way. Each group performed impressively, with each song highlighted by a dazzling array of costumes, props and dances. The conductors / conductresses were seemingly as much a part of the performance as they were as lively as the singers themselves. All in all, this was an entertaining night for the audience which packed the UERM gymnasium.
Winning the competition with an average score of
91.33% was the choir of Med 2003B, with their choice piece, “A Christmas Praise”. Second placers were the choral group of Med 2002B who scored
88%. With 81%, Med 2003A came in third.
The members of the Med 2003B choir are: Teresa Liwanag, Angel Roxas, Vanee Rumboa, Marides Salao, Apple Sandejas, Celest Usi, Doki Valera, Zara Villanueva, Dawn Manuel, Sherrene Ostrea, Amabelle Par, Ritty Pereja, Irma Rajagukguk, Michelle Ramirez, Sharon Umandap, Robin Pinzon, Rey Quijano, Redel Valera, Bernard Vega, Butch Velasquez, Jesus Lizardo, Andre Masanga, Gene Quintero and R-Jay Taguinod. Their conductress is Katherine Lesly Joven and their pianist is Kim Martin Tolentino. Choreographers are Catherine Kabiling, Anne Marie Lagman and Clarissa
Layusa.
The event was hosted by Mu Lambda Grandmaster Paolo Luna and Most Exalted Sister Trisha Fernandez of Med 2001.

3 on 3 Basketball
Tournament '99
The Mu Lambda Fraternity sponsored the 6th annual
UERM Men's 3 on 3 basketball tournament last October
4 and 11. A total of 16 teams competed for the
championship, 15 of which were from the College of
Medicine and only 1 of which was from the College of
Physical Therapy. The team of the College of Nursing
and of the employees were again disappointingly
absent from this year's event.
As in previous years, games were played on a half-court,
lasting 10 minutes each. Each team had four players,
one of which was a substitute. Refereeing the matches
were the Mu Lambdans themselves. Amateur rules
applied to all games and fouls were limited to only 4
per person. A registration fee of P200 was collected
from each team.
Taking home the P2000 cash prize was the team of
2002A, namely, Omar Arabia, Charles Cabuquit, Mike
Ching and Ronald Fajardo, who bested the team of
Gerard Agabulos, Stephen Caoilan, Eric De Belen and
Bee-Jay Rocha in the final round.
