Being a proud sister of Tri-Sigma Sorority here at Newberry College, I wanted to share with you what being a Sigma is all about.
Sisterhood is a lifetime experience. Tri-Sigma sisters share a Sisterhood that is made more significant by the rich legacy of values, standards, and purpose of it's past.
Here at Newberry College you will find the Eta Beta Chapter of Tri-Sigma which was installed on April 12, 1997.
HISTORY OF SIGMA SIGMA SIGMA
Sigma Sigma Sigma was founded on April 20, 1898 by a group of ladies who attended Longwood College in Farmville Virginia. These ladies gathered together to develop a sorority based on friendship, the ideals of honor, and scholarship. Our eight founders were Margaret Batte, Louise Davis, Martha Trent Featherston, Isabella Merrick, Sallie Michie, Lelia Scott, Elizabeth Watkins and Lucy Wright. Tri-Sigma's headquarters is located in Woodstock, VA and is called the Walton House. It is named after our third National President, Mabel Lee Walton.
SIGMA SIGMA SIGMA IS WORKING WITH OTHERS
Loving, sharing and giving are concepts which describe the experience of the Sigma Sisterhood. Through the chapter, sisters learn about themselves and their ability to communicate, to lead, to motivate and to share themselves withs others. There is a sense of pride of being a part of the sorority. Membership in Tri-Sigma is a lifetime commitment and one that must be taken seriously.
TRI-SIGMA'S PHILANTHROPY
Our philanthropy, or charity project, is called the Robbie Page Memorial. The cause of this charity is play therapy for hospitalized children. Sigma Sigma Sigma has sponsored different programs, studies, and facilities dedicated to this cause in hospitals across the country. The theme of these service projects is Sigma Serves Children.
SIGMA SISTERS AT NEWBERRY COLLEGE
This past Fall Formal rush we gained a fantastic group of 17 girls who will be initiated November 8th. What's impressive with our group of girls is that we are the second largest sorority on campus and have not even been here for two years yet. Next April 12, 1999 will be our local two year anniversary.
Our chapter held a 24 hour teeter-totter-a-thon to raise money for Robbie Page Memorial, our Philanthropy.
