A big hello to all you people accessing this page. I would like to start by giving a brief intro of myself. My name is Vipul K. Lalka. I finished my Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics and Telecommunications, from the University of Bombay, Mumbai, India in 1998. I studied for my Bachelor's in Vivekanand Education Society's Institute of Technology, (VESIT) , Chembur - one of Mumbai's best colleges. The following sections contain updates at major times during the life of this website (and hence mine too).
Why I decided to make this homepage ??
Well....like most of the Engineering students from my branch and other related
branches, I decided to pursue my higher studies (Masters) in the U.S.. Since I
had Internet access, I decided to send my pre-application letters to the
Universities via e-mail. That is where we (myself and my friends) faced our
first obstacle - there was no site on the web, which had a comprehensive list of
all the Universities and their e-mail addresses. We had to either get the e-mail
addresses from the Peterson's
page or visit each University's official Homepage and search for their
e-mail addresses. Believe me, this is a tedious process.
This Homepage provides a direct link to the Official Homepage of all the
Universities listed here. In addition to that, I have also listed the e-mail
addresses of the Electrical and/or Telecommunications and/or Computer Science
Departments of some of the Universities, for convenience. I will be updating
this list as and when I get more information. The latest addition to this page
is a listing of US Universities, by subject. Presently, I have only put up the
subject-wise listings of the Business schools, and the Universities offering
Telecommunications / Computer Networking. In addition to this, I have also
provided rankings or links to the most popular rankings of the US Universities.
Look out for more additions to this page, in the future. Your suggestions are
always welcome.
The sole purpose of this page is to help all those planning to pursue their
studies in the U.S.. (Hence, I have not tried to make this page very attractive
or flashy- just kept it to the bare minimum). It is my humble request to all of
you to please send me constructive feedback about this page and also send me any
additional e-mail addresses of Universities, not listed here.
Was I successful in fulfilling my dream of going to the US for higher studies ??
I have finally fulfilled my dream of going to the US for higher studies !! I
have received partial financial aid from
Utah State University, Logan. I
will be studying there for my Master of Science in Electrical and Computer
Engineering. I also have my visa ready; so, if nothing untoward (??) happens, I
shall be leaving for the land of dreams on the 10th of August 1998.
I did manage to get my visa and arrive here at Utah State
University. Luckily, I got a full Research Assistantship in September (1 month
after coming here). So at least my monetary needs are taken care of. :-) I'm
working for the Center for Self-Organizing Intelligent Systems (CSOIS) and
Visionary Products,
Inc. (VPI), on the Red Rover, Red Rover Project. This project involves a lot
of coding in C, C++ and Java. I've done most of the C coding for the Macintosh
and am also working on the Java part of this project on the PC as well as on the
Mac.
Currently, I've completed my first semester here at Utah State University
....after a hectic 3 months of hard labor. :-) Click here -
MY RESUME - to view my 'resume' and
learn more about me and my courses .....I don't see why anyone would wanna do
that ...unless you are working for a cool software company and are looking at
hiring some GOOD software professionals ! :-)
Currently, I am working with
Avaya, Inc. (the former
Enterprise Networks Group of Lucent Technologies) in New Jersey as a Software
Engineer. My job mainly involves Application Design and Development in Java and
J2EE. For
details of my work view my resume. I still get e-mails from aspiring students
and try to help them out as best as I can.
Wishing you "All The Best" in your pursuit for higher studies, this is Vipul
Lalka signing off.
