A school is four walls with the future inside.
Students deserve respect for who they are; they have the power to inspire. Students learn best when they play an active role in their own education. Therefore, they need to be offered opportunity and choice so that they believe in their own ability to succeed.
It is the students' job to take responsibility for their own lives and educations. They are capable and curious people in need of a strong role model. They need a balance of structure and freedom, of the traditional and the unconventional.

The teacher deserves respect for who she is; she is a mentor who guides learning.
The most important quality that a teacher can possess is enthusiasm. Once a teacher has infected her students with enthusiasm, it's difficult for the students not to learn.
It is the teacher's job to create an environment in which students are comfortable sharing their challenges, goals, and talents. Every step the teacher takes with the students should be toward a life goal. She must help students discover the answer to the question: "When am I ever going to use this in the real world?"

School does not exist for the sake of school. It exists as a marketplace for the exchange of ideas and a forum to discuss change. It exists as a training ground for society and as a transition from childhood to adulthood. It exists as a garden of scholarship and as a diving board into the future.
