I've got to do a research paper but where do I start?

To help you learn the steps to writing a research paper, we are going to follow Fatima Allandra, an English student, as she does each step. Her teacher, Mr. Tillerman has assigned her class to do a 1500 word paper on a controversial topic. The syllabus says "each student will be expected to have used a minimum of 5 sources, 2 of those being periodicals and 1 being an internet source. MLA format will be used."
