Nagaoks is second largest city in Niigata pref., located less than two hours
distance from Tokyo toward the north by Shinkansen(Bullet Train). Nagaoka's
population is about 190,000 and mainly living along the Shinano River basin.
The Shinano River is the longest river in Japan with a total length of about
367 kkms., and Nagaoka is located along its midstream basin.

Nagaoka firework festival is held on the 2nd and the 3rd August of each year
along the river basin of Shinano river. This firework display is said to
be the most psectacular in Japan, because of number of fireworkks, their
size, and the variety of colors. It will be a worthwile experiance to watch
it while eating Japanese food and liquor.

SANJYAKUDAMA
You must see "Sanjakudama" with a single firework with a diameter of 90 cms. and
weighing 300 kgs.. When it is set off it rises 600 meters, and you will see an
ultra-large fire-flower 650 meters in diameter spread across the sky.
