On November 28, 1987, the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the campus of the State University of New York at New Paltz by 4 eminent ladies. Soror Tonya Holloway led the inception of Kappa Omicron when she pledged Sigma along with 11 other women from New York City and Syracuse, New York as part of the infamous R.E.N.A.I.S.S.A.N.C.E. line (Alpha Pi, Theta Tau, Kappa Omicron) of the Summer of 1987 thus allowing her to establish Kappa Omicron.
Audrey Morales, Tina Estevez, Yolanda Davis, and Leslie-Anne Drye were guided by Soror Holloway in the chartering of the chapter. Soror Inez Vanable, current Northeast Regional Syntaktes, served as the first graduate advisor.
