It all started back in February of 1996. I attend a presentation of the Walt Disney World College Program (WDWCP). They showed this video describing what the program was like. The program is composed of three components: Living, Earning, and Learning. Participants lived in a special apartment complex known as Vista Way. The video showed many different testimonials with students saying how it changed their lives. After the presentation was over the representatives said that they would be taking appointments for interviews the next day. The whole idea of the program interested me. I said to myself: "What have I got to lose!" So, I stood in line and made an appointment for the next day.
Participants in the Walt Disney World College Program work virtually everywhere in the Walt Disney World Resort. Jobs range from Lifeguard Host/Hostess to Attractions Host/Hostess to Front Desk Host/Hostess. My job title was Recreation Host. I worked as a ride operator at Blizzard Beach. My job was to run the chairlift and some of the slides at the park.
Following, you will find a list of positions available:
Participants live in the Vista Way apartment complex. They consist of two bedroom/two bath and three bedroom/two bath apartments. WDW furnishes and equips the apartments with everything needed. All you have to do is bring your clothes and your attitude for fun! Transportation is provided to and from the work locations. Transports also take residents to the local shopping centers as well. Vista Way has two swimming pools and hot tubs, a volleyball court, a workout center, basketball courts, and tennis courts. And if you don't have a racquet or ball, you can check them out from the main office!
Program participants attend a series of seminars aimed to teach the business philosophy of the Walt Disney Company. Students gain knowlege of valuable tools and lessons that are needed to succeed in the business world. Participants now can pick an area of concentration that they are interested in. The seminars are held once a week in one of the buildings within Vista Way. I found that I learned a lot of interesting things about WDW that I did not know before. The printed materials that we received during the seminars has been quite valuable to me since then.
I have provided some basic information about the program. If you would like additional information, you can visit The official WDW College Program website
