The Mother
by: Aaron Wilkinson

A young woman sat in a rocking chair
holding a bundle tight.
She cradled her new born, first born son
on an Oregon’s cold winter night.
The tiny hand wrapped round a finger
as love beamed soft from her eyes.
In a voice that brought slumber sweet
she sang him his first lullaby.

**Chorus**
Honey, Grandma loves you.
Angel, Daddy loves you.
Sweet Heart, Mommy loves you, too.
Dear One, Jesus loves you.
Dear One, Jesus loves you.

A young mother runs to her son’s bedroom,
woken by unconscious screams.
She shakes the little guy’s shoulder gently
to wake him from his bad dream.
She smoothes his hair and dries his tears
and listens patiently.
When he’s through sobbing all his fears
she sings this simple melody.

**Chorus**

A constant prayer in that mother’s life
got answered just today.
A baptism shows her son’s wise choice to
follow the Lord’s narrow way.
She stands looking at his sleeping form
her thankful heart full of praise
Her whispered voice is as soft as down
to match her eyes’ tender gaze

**Chorus**

The family found out just yesterday
the cure they prayed for refused.
This dreaded disease has taken hold.
She feels so scared and confused.
The young son sets his shoulders square
to bear all his grief within.
And as her life begins to fade
her thoughts still reach toward him

**Chorus**

A young man stands on a square blue stage,
people packed wall to wall.
So many lives touched by her godly hand,
this day there’s not seats for all.
His mother is home in her Father’s arms yet
tears glisten in every eye.
Time stands still in heav’n and earth as,
he sings her her last lullaby....

**Chorus 2**
Mommy Grandma loves you.
Mommy Daddy loves you.
Mommy your son, he loves you, too.
Mommy Jesus loves you.
Mommy Jesus loves you.

He finally found that perfect wife
He wishes his mom could see
Now a young father holds his little girl
the first in the family
Her little voice, "Daddy I can’t sleep"
followed by a loud sigh
With a smile and voice spanning memories
He sings her this lullaby

**Chorus 3**
Honey, Grandpa loves you
Angel, Mommy loves you
Sweet Heart, Daddy loves you too
Dear One, Jesus loves you
Dear One, Jesus loves you
