Map

Assumption is located approximately 95 km west of High Level, and then 13 km north of Hwy #58. Rainbow Lake is another 44 km west on Hwy #58 and is basically at the "end of the road". The paved portion of Hwy #58 ends at Rainbow Lake. There are an infinite number of lease roads west of Rainbow Lake which provide access to the various oil & gas production wells in the area. In the fall and winter there is a "winter road" built on the frozen muskeg which allows access to Fort Nelson, British Columbia. There is more than a passing interest in the region to have this road (Hwy #58) extended to permit year round travel. At times this interest has surfaced and has resulted in people actually believing the road is a possibility. At present it seems little more than a dream. Completion of a permanent, high-grade link may be key to the future of Rainbow Lake as the community strives to diversify the local economy. Year round access to Northern BC and the Yukon Territories is seen as a means to that end. Zama City is a "city" in name only and is located approximately 85 km north of Assumption.
