i,m sad...our elders don,t speak up,at pow-wows...or much anywhere else for that matter. I need them to remind us all that we are dieing, thatwe need to remember, teachus & for us to teach. When someone comes to them, talk with them. When we have dreams, if they come true, when there is witnesses to these dreams, to help people learn what it means, to tell them what to do.for our women to stand by our mens sides, for our men to stand by our womens sides in all ways! To remember that befor the white man, we had no jails; no murder, rape, sexual abuse, cheating, lieing, theft and so on. We were a people so great, there was an understanding about respect, thoughtfullness, just everything. The spirits still talk to us, we just don't listen, or don't understand. The spirits have much to say, but who seems to care anylonger, or for that matter takes it seriously. I know when i go to the other side to meet all my relations, I can say that i tried... that only a couple wanted to help, that not many cared. So many will stand & say their indian, but only few will take their place. There is no reason for us to be the way we are any longer, we know how to fight, we could do it, we only need to speak from our hearts & minds, our actions will do great! If you were raped, you would not rape, it's wrong, and you'd know that, so why do we beat,lie,cheat,steal,drink...you hated your family doing it,why would you put others through it? That is all i have to say for now. Please take it to heart, discuss it over with others...

I feel that it's important to protect these sights. We owe it to the ancestors to fight for their right to rest in peace. Because of them we are able to enjoy Earth Mother.

That' s brillant being able to talk a little bit with you!
I am French but I have been living in London for 5 years(!!!)and in Europe, unfortunatly,we don' t hear so much about Native American. What is happening in the communities? What are you doing? etc.. and less chance to talk to them!
I have been very interested by your culture and history since I was child(?!). Twice, I saw a show,I read a few books, but it' s not enough. So I will appreciate if I could talk with you sometimes to times. I also saw an old comment from Keri Kraemer ( Ap

Looking forward to hear from you.
Take good care of yourselves

I'm researching a case involving the disturbance of a tribal burial site in Nashville, Tennessee. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma and am now reporting this project to the Native American Studies Department, Dr. Barbara Hobson. I'm searching
or any pertinant information concerning the issues of the current case involving both Davidson & Williamson Counties and a local tribal organization, who is protecting the rights of the grave sites discovered.
Last spring, TDOT (Dept. of Trans.) discovered a burial site while widening a local intersection. The local Tribal group has formed an alliance, acquired lawyers to represent, and meet twice a week to keep the case organized.
One Judge has put a halt to further construction, while the second Judge is waiting for the First's ruling on the case.
They're working through the necessary steps to protect the site, but what kind of legal solution can resolve the situation.
Any answers will be appreciated,
Kevan P. Robinson

I have heard lately that someone wants to put on the internet and cd-rom a listing of the NAGPRA Sites or those designated as a site. It is enough that the Native people of the United States know where they are located. Does anyone really realize what t
is type of categorizing implicates? This is very degrading to a human being. Does a human being not have a right to be laid to rest with dignity? Think of all the land in the United States and think about where your ancestors are buried. How many buria
sites have been destroyed, layed open, or disturbed for the cause of progress, information, or greed. Keep our burial sites and sites for those "repatriated" sacred and tribally known. Keep any language that will allow knowledge or disturbance out of p
oposed rule or law changes or new laws/acts by Congress. May the One, Almighty Creator keep the Native and Indigenous peoples of the Earth in the safety of his loving heart and hands. Ever mindful that we were all once indigenous peoples, and that the i
digenous people only fight for what is, was and should truly be their right.

Over the past 9 years there has been an attempt to change NAGPRA by the very people who sat at the first negotications. The scientist did not like the Bill and will never accept anything the Indian People add. The NAGPRA legislation was supposed to be an
equal base to start from. As Indian people we are use to this behavior, do we accept it, is the question. Can the scientist be believed? They have made up an entirely new race of human being for their gratification. Just like the Baring Straits Theory,
o proof but expect to be accepted as fact. How much longer must our children be lied too? Although the scientist are aware of the same features found in the Great Basin ancient remains as the Kenniwick man carries, they refuse to tie these men together.
A one sided theory is the best they can do?

i am an archaeology student in Montreal, Quebec. I think repatriation is extremely important and has come much too late in the history of our continent. I would just like to point out that sometimes good things can come out of archaeological digs, when th
re is respect on both sides. For example, I have participated in the excavation of two Native American burials. They needed to be taken out not for "pseudo-science", but to save them from being trampled by motocross. These bones will be analysed (the nat
ve american community has given us the right to do so) by a paleoanthropologist with the utmost respect for what they are and what they represent. The whole project was done in collaboration with the concerned First Nation and three teenagers participated
in the excavation as an introduction to archaeology. The remains will soon be given back to the Community which has organised a re-burial ceremony. For me, it was a chance to exchange and create a real dialogue with the community and truly share informati
n. I feel priviledged and lucky to have been given this opportunity. I would be quite interested in reading your thoughts on this subjet. Thank you, Vanessa.

I would like to discuss with you the events in Hardin County Ky which involved the reburrial of the 3000 year old remains of a Native American. The remains were returned to "preserve the sanctity of the individual" and then given a pseudo Native American/
hristian reburial. Which I found deeply offensive No charges were made against the grave robber but the archaeologist called in by the State Medical Examiners office (the remains were suspect as a murder)was constantly harrassed by groups "concerned with
he disrespect" to the deceased and then performed a Christian reburrial for the press. Any comments?
