Karla Faye Tucker Brown
Nov 18, 1959 - Feb 3, 1998

Karla Faye Tucker died by Lethal Injection in Texas on February 3, 1998.
She was pronounced dead at 6:45 pm.  Karla was the first woman to be
executed in the U.S. since 1984.  She was on death row for the brutal pickax
murders of Jerry Lynn Dean and Deborah Thornton on June 13, 1983.  Karla
never once denied her guilt and spent the next 14 years on death row turning
her life around as a Christian and helping others along the way.

Karla's Final Words Prior to Death

"I would like to say to all of you, the Thornton family and Jerry Dean's
family that I am so sorry.  I hope God will give you peace with this.
Baby, I love you.  Ron give Peggy a hug for me.  Everybody has been
so good to me.  I love all of you very much.....I am going to be face to
face with Jesus now.  Warden Baggett, thank all of you so much.  You have
been so good to me.  I love all of you very much, I will see you all when you
get there.  I will wait for you."

This site was not created to honor the person that Karla used to be and
definitely not created to take away from the crime she participated in or
her victims. Crime does not pay.  However, it was created to honor the
woman that Karla had become prior to her death.  Perhaps this case will
serve as an important lesson to us all. When you take a life, you
may be required to give your own in exchange.  Karla found peace in her
life finally from Christianity.  Perhaps the families of the victims shall also be
able to put closure on this case and begin to move forward.  Karla had
married a prison chaplain a few years ago.  May God be with Dana Brown
and the rest of Karla's family and worldwide friends.
God bless the families of her victims as well.

GRAVE
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush.
I am the swift uplifting rush.
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

Karla Faye was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 1998. Her private service was attended by about 40 relatives and friends. Those in attendance included her husband Dana Brown, Ronald Carlson, brother of murder victim Deborah Thornton. Also attending was J.C. Mosier, the detective who helped crack the case 15 years ago. The service was held in a small chapel at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetary in southeast Houston. At present, the grave is unmarked.

NOTE: A public memorial service was held at the Family Life Training Center on Friday, February 13, 1998 at 7:30 pm in Hereford, Texas. This site will remain online indefinitely both as a memorial and a research link.

For complete details about this case, Beverly Lowery authored a book called "Crossed Over". It was published in 1992 by Viking-Penguin Publishers.  Karla was still living at that time and approved the publication of the book. (Please READ that this says she approved the book, it does not and NEVER has said that she approved OF the book!!) Please realize this prior to emailing and attacking the webmasters. The book is out of circulation but CAN be obtained through the appropriate channels.

“Certainly you can’t say that the brutality of murdering two people is good. It’s not. But afterwards, what came from that in me was good.” — Karla Faye Tucker Brown
