@SCI-FI

My interest in Science Fiction is not what it used to be I must admit. When I was a kid, both me and my older brother were quite obsessed with Star Trek. In fact, the staple thing to have built out of Lego was the Enterprise. We used to think that the entire soucer section on top was the bridge, until we saw the Cage episode where they zoomed into the bridge though the top. When STNG came along, my brother was the first out the very next day with his Lego rendition of the new ship. I followed suit and soon we had pretty amazing Enterprises lined with decals for lights. We also each bought several of the Hallmark Star Trek Ornaments.

Our interest did not stop with Star Trek. We were immensly into Robotech, Transformers, Voltron, and an older show called Space 1999. As usual, our creative minds showed through our lego renditions. We built Eagle Transporters and always changed the design when we discovered some new feature through an episode of the TV series.

ROBOTECH

We constructed Veritech Fighters, and after recieving the toy versions (Egg fighers) for Christmas one year, turned our attention towards Hovertanks and the STF-1. I will tell yo u that the SDF-1s that we built were simply brilliant. Our vehicles always transformed properly and the utmost importance was placed on detail. I will make the bold statement as to say that my older brother and I were simply unmatched in our Lego abilit ies - I could not do half as decent a job today! (We both still have all of our Lego!)

My two brothers and I each got our own veritech fighter for Christmas one year and two of them still exist. I had Max Sterling's blue fighter, the older brother had Miriam'r red version, and the younger brother had Skull Leader. I managed to find pictures of them on another site, but they exactly depict the two we have still.

SPACE 1999

Space 1999 was a show that we always wanted to get home from Church to watch. I loved it - the Travel Tubes, Eagles, Moonbase Alpha, the communicators and guns (of course we built those out of Lego too!). Now I check out the old toys on EBay all the tim e and am glad that we always built our own - it was more fun that way. Strange thing is that before the advent of the Internet, I had never met another soul who was a fan of the show, or really even had heard of it. When I watched reruns airing on YTV, I realized that the plots and acting are a bit weak, but the ships are still sooo cool! That is what hooked us as kids.

VOLTRON

Now Voltron, Defender of the Universe. I think most people remember Voltron - the five lions that formed together to fight Robeasts doing the work of the Evil Zarkon! I still have the toy Voltron with his Blazing Sword intact! Fewer people remember VoltronI, referred to as Vehicle Voltron. He was made up of 15 vehicles that formed five teams - Air, Sea, and Space (we thought sea). I am going to put some pictures of VV down below to refresh your memory! I too had forgotten about VV until I stumble d across one of the toys on EBay. The Chinese somehow ended up making an exact copy last year and this has been circulating among collectors - the plastic is a bit cheaper than the original and the colour scheme is off, but never the less with a bit of i magination he is Voltron, Defender of the Aniverse! (yes, Aniverse) The team was based on a huge starship called the Explorer which resembles the SDF-1 somewhat. Voltron appeared in a great TV show in the 80s, of which the new current computer-gr aphic version is a mere insult against!
