Arthur Allan was a candidate for 16th Judicial Circuit Court Judge in the '98 Republican Primary in Kane County Illinois. He ran a campaign stressing that LAWYERS should not give money to judge candidates where they had cases pending before them. The lawyers opposed him with $50,000.00+, signs on their office lawns, letters to the editor, letters to their clients, personal appearances with the judge-opponent, and negative bar ratings in the newspapers. Allan lost the primary. Then the legislature (as if it had been listening)passed a new law prohibiting the practice of lawyers giving moeny to judges where cases were pending. The next two judges running for office then refused money from lawyers. The state bar association ruffled at the edges)has filed suit to have the new law nullified. The suit is pending.
