IN
AN EMERGENCY CALL 911
The University of Minnesota Duluth(UMD) Police Department is
responsible for law enforcement, security and emergency response
on the UMD campus. The department seeks to maintain a staff of
eight full-time fully empowered police officers. It has access
to national crime databases and works closely with federal, state,
and local law enforcement agencies, including the Duluth Police
Department and the St. Louis Co. Sheriff's Department. The attempt
is made to have officers on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a
week year-round and provide police help in investigations, medical
emergencies, fires, traffic accidents, crime reports, assist
with lockouts, and the enforcement of laws regulating the use
of alcohol, weapons, and controlled substances.
It is the UMD policy to encourage the prompt reporting of all
crimes committed on campus and to assist victims of those crimes.
Weekly campus crime reports are printed in "The Statesman"
campus newspaper. Annual crime statistics are available in the
Safety and Security on Campus brochure published each year by
the University of Minnesota Duluth.
The UMD police and parking office is located in Room 287 of Darland
Administration Building. The department's main telephone number
is (218)726-7000. Office hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday
through Friday. After hours and on weekends, please call 911(no,
it doesn't have to be an emergency) and ask the dispatcher to
have the on-duty UMD officer call you or meet you at a location.
You may leave a voice mail message for the UMD police after business
hours on the 726-7000 line.
