Membership in SLPA is available for a contribution of $375. This figure based on an assumption of 200 members to fund a total cost of $75,000 as set forth in the Estimated Litagation Budget below. Of course, contributions of any amount are welcome. To help support our efforts to preserve your rights as a property owner please send your check to the following address:

1. Trial

The following is an estimate of the expenses associated with preparing and presenting the case at trial:

1. Legal fees and expenses -$41,000 to $52,000 (legal fees billed at $200 per hour for partners, $150 per hour for associates and $60 per hour for paralegal time):

1. Research/Legal - $6,000 to $8,000
2. Discovery/Depositions-$5,000 to $6,000
3. Witness Preparation-$5,000 to $6,000
4. Trial/Motions-$10,000 to $12,000
5. Trial Briefs and Reply $6,000 to $7,000
6. Court Costs, Sheriffs, Court Reporters, Exhibit Preparation, etc.- $4,000 to $6,000

2) Expert Witness Fees and Expenses: $14,000 to $20,000 – billed at cost

1. Expert Appraiser - $3,000 to $4,000
2. Traffic Consultant – $3,000 to $5,000
3. Civil Engineer regarding septic design and the public health code - $4,000 to $6,000
4. Land use law expert/planner - $4,000 to $5,000

Total - $55,000 to $72,000

1. Appeal

An appeal, if necessary, from the final decision of the Superior Court would be prosecuted at the hourly rates as set forth above with fees capped at $20,000.
