|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Regularly scheduled and custom scheduled classes for candidates seeking to become NRA Certified Basic Firearms Instructor Classes are normally a minimum of 6-8 Candidates. The courses are not firearm courses! They are courses on how to teach BASIC firearms skills using NRA Lesson Plans to an audience assumed to have little or no firearms experience. Candidate Instructors must have skills of a level to make them credible to a student audience. Cost is my cost including travel and varies depending on local site costs for room /range/ accommodations. The training process provided for Candidate Instructors is an intensive one and there are presentations on organizing courses, forming a training team, delegating responsibility, getting sponsors and much more. The entire format has been the object of revolutionary change and is not at all like that familiar to those who have gone through such courses in the past. Total Participant Involvement is the goal and that means the course is not 20+ hours of listening to a "moving head" talk with slides and posters as training aids! Any NRA member can ask to be considered for admission to Instructor Courses. The courses explain the basics of what to teach and give examples of how to teach and how not to teach. It is true that it is very difficult to teach what you do not know. Experienced shooters are what is needed. You do not need to be comfortable in a classroom or before groups of relative strangers to begin the course. There is a desperate need for women to become Instructors and there is a need as well for shooters with an understanding of the special needs of the physically challenged and the dyslectic. The courses that I offer are: ·The Basic Pistol Group: Basic Pistol and Basic Personal Protection as well as Home Firearms Safety. "Personal Protection" was once called "Voluntary Practical Pistol". It has many of the elements of Basic Pistol with the addition of sessions by Officers of the Court and sessions on choosing holsters/accessories/etc. ·The Basic Rifle Group: Basic Rifle Shooting course. This is a course for those who would instruct beginners in rifle. It is a shooting sports rifle course when taught to students by Instructors. Typical of the audience is the BSA and the FFA programs -e.g.- the BSA Rifle Shooting Merit Badge. It is not a tactical rifle course. (I can also include Certification Training in Basic Shotgun ML Pistol and ML Rifle and ML Shotgun} NRA and your area truly needs active and enthusiastic Instructors to meet the growing demand for training. Basic Courses are TEAM-taught and each Instructor does what she does best. Classroom skills are learned and are learnable. So is course organization and advertising and recognizing when a student has a familiar problem. Few people are born knowing how to teach. Do not be frightened by the idea! The purpose of a Training Counselor appointment is to train more Instructors qualified to teach the public. I want you to succeed. This is not a sorority "rush" period and there are no secret fraternity "blackball" votes. It is true not everyone can complete a course and then immediately be certified. It is just as true that you have a part to play in NRA educational programs. If you are even more interested after reading the materials, send e-mail! I will notify you of the date of the pre-screening session and confirm when the training classes are scheduled. Join us! I look forward to your reply. Send letter of interest with your return address by e-mail: Leave the information as to your target audience, your experience in training any subject, your firearms experience and your current competition rating, your current law enforcement status, your similar status as this latter affects the need for a live fire demonstration prior to class. I need to know your ability to receive and read/print MS Word 6.0 files in .zip format. OR I can send Adobe .pdf {SEE MAIL LINK BELOW} |

Share Your Knowledge is the NRA's WWW page for Instructor Training | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Instructor courses are intended for those with enough firearms experience to be credible to a novice audience as NRA Certified Instructors. Instructors teach classes for novice firearms users. The classroom work deals with how to teach and how to use the NRA Lesson Plans. The Instructor Training does not involve advanced marksmanship training. It is training on how to deal with students,aterial and the use of training aids. NRA Basic Pistol and Basic Personal Protection Certified Instructors can teach the pre-approved courses for training in the NC CCH permit system. NRA Certified Rifle Instructors are automatically qualified for the CMP Garand purchase program { they do not need Garand Clinic time, do not need competition record cards.} http://www.ca-rkba.org/ncrkba/ncrpa.html is the URL for NCRPA and membership information. |
