Against New Bible Translations

This area of the ETR site is dedicated to showing all true followers of Jesus Christ that there is a difference in Bible versions, and that you should be keenly aware of this if you are using a new version. While a different version may be easier understood sometimes, it should always be cross-checked with the KJV, do be sure that no meaning is lost. However, you are much wiser to use only a KJV.

Compare these differences in scripture:

People don't want to hear about Hell; in the following scriptures, the King James Version (KJV) refers to Hell for what it is: Hell. However, the NIV refers to it as only "death."
Deut. 32:22, Job 26:6, Prov. 23:14, Prov 27:20, Isa. 57:9, Isa. 28:18

Consider the following statements made by NIV editors:

"The NIV Translators...came to a decision regarding the meaning of the word [hell]... The grave fits...The translation grave is the most appropriate one... The terms [hell and grave] are synonymous...no more than darkness, dissolution, and dust of the tomb... to lie in the dust... decay or perish in the grave." - R. Laird Harris

"The committee did not feel absolutely bound to the Hebrew text...The other Canannite deity, mot (death)...is personified." - Larry Walker

"Regarding further punishment after their death, the text is silent." - R. Laird Harris

Omitted verses in NIV, NASB, et al:

Rom. 1:3 Jesus Christ our Lord
Eph. 3:14 our Lord Jesus Christ
John 6:69 (L.B.) Thou art that Christ
Mark 9:44 Where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched.
Luke 17:36 Two men shall be in the field, the one shall be taken and the other left.
Rom. 8:1 who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.
Acts 8:37 And Philip said if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

There are many verses which have been altered to soften Hell, sin, judgement, the Divinity of Jesus Christ, etc. Look through them and compare the KJV to NIV, NASB, et al.

NIV, NASB, et al. verse or segment KJV
My conscience is clear (NIV, NASB) 1 Cor. 4:4 For I know nothing by myself.
I retract (NASB) Job 42:6 I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.
We have been approved by God 1 Thess. 2:4 We were allowed of God
Professing to be wise Rom. 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise
prescribe 1 Tim. 4:11 command
This man is the divine power known as the Great Power. (NIV) Acts 8:10 This man is the great power of God.
Yet thou hast made him a little lower than God. Ps. 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels.
YOU ARE GODS (NASB) John 10:34 Ye are gods
Like God did God make man Gen. 1:27 in the image of God
ought to take pride James 1:9 rejoice
be proud 2 Cor. 1:14 your rejoicing
be proud 2 Cor. 5:12 glory on our behalf
our proud confidence 2 Cor. 1:12 rejoicing

Note the positive references to pride. I don't see anywhere in the Bible where mankind is anything better than sinful dirt. There are so many more references that are in error but I will not list them all here. While Roman soldiers were trying to convince the public that Jesus' disciples stole His body from the tomb, they altered many manuscripts in an additional attempt to destroy Jesus's reputation. It is from many of these manuscripts which modern versions are translated. And of course, theology that disagrees with the editors is rejected or softened until it is of none effect. Another way of doing this is by selling referenced Bibles. After every verse of scripture, an "explanation" is given which fits that particular verse into a doctrine. Referencing Bibles is just another way for someone to spread their particular doctrine. This is how the pre-tribulation doctrine spread around the turn of the century: via the Scofield Bible. Read the scripture and take it for what it says, be it literal or metaphoric.

I strongly recommend that you aquire a book on the subject. You will indeed be shocked by some of the evidence presented against the new versions. You might even be shocked enough to put that NIV down! I was.
