Giles Wayne Casaleggio is an associate professor at Saint Johns University, College of Professional Studies. In addition to teaching Criminal Justice and Legal Studies courses, he has been Director of The Security Administration Program and taught Constitutional Law in The Criminal Justice Leadership Graduate School. Casaleggio obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1972. He attended The University of Tennessee Law School and received his Juris Doctorate from Saint Johns University in 1972. He is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey and before The United States Supreme Court. His career in government as an attorney, law enforcement officer and elected public official has included the federal, state ,county and municipal levels.

Casaleggio began his career in 1972 as a law clerk in the United States Attorneys Office for the Southern District of New York. He began his career as a prosecuting attorney in 1973 in Union County New Jersey as an assistant prosecutor assigned to Juvenile Court, The Appellate Unit, The Grand Jury and The Jury Trial Unit. From 1975 to 1985 Casaleggio served as Chief Assistant Prosecutor in Passaic and Morris Counties where he specialized in the investigation of organized crime and supervised their narcotics task forces.

Casaleggio received specialized training in electronic surveillance investigation at The Cornell University Institute on Organized Crime and advanced trial tactics at The National College of District Attorneys. He was designated as an instructor for The New Jersey Police Training Commission and taught the police detectives training course, illegal gambling investigation, narcotics investigation and search and seizure law at various county police academies and The New Jersey State Police Academy.

In 1985 Casaleggio was appointed to the position of New Jersey Deputy Attorney General and assigned to The Special Enforcement Unit which investigated cases of political corruption and organized crime. He coauthored The Attorney General’s State Narcotics Action Plan during the administration of Governor Thomas Kane. In 1987, when a New Jersey State Police/Division of Criminal Justice statewide narcotics task force was created, Casaleggio was designated as supervisor of Northern New Jersey operations.

Upon accepting a teaching position at Saint Johns University, Casaleggio entered local politics in New Jersey and was elected twice as mayor and councilman in Ringwood He has been a member of The New Jersey Conference of Mayors, Criminal Justice Educators Association, American Association of University Professors, St. Johns University Alumni Association, Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association, and The N.Y. and N.J. Rifle and Pistol Associations.

Professor Casaleggio’s law enforcement writing has been featured in Case and Comment Magazine, vol 79, no 2, The Police Chronicle, vol 2, no 12, and The Narc Officer, vol XI, no IV. He has been a national conference speaker before The Society of Professional Investigators on security education, The National Cargo Security Council on narcotics abuse and The Connecticut Narcotics Officers Association on organized crime. Presently he is preparing material on topics such as Ethnic Diversity and Racial Profiling, Law Enforcement Organization and Management, Organized Crime and Electronic Surveillance, Public Safety and Crime Prevention, Constitutional Search and Seizure, and Governmental Corruption and Ethics.
