It is said that there are many good ways to live, but only one good way to die. At the end of this life's journey I want to be prepared to meet my creator in peace. There are many conflicting opinions circulating in the world about what a person must do in order to be saved. Many who claim Christ as their Savior only use one or two scriptures that pertain to the plan of salvation and leave the rest out.
I don't know about you, but I like a good chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. And as many of you connosieurs of chocolate cake may know, it has more than one ingredient. Pour a box of Betty Crocker cake mix in a pan, put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes and all you're going to have is hot chocolate cake powder. You need several things to make a cake: Flower, water, eggs, milk, etc. If you leave out some key ingredients, you're just going to make a big mess in the kitchen for your mom to clean up.
Well, salvation is a lot like a good chocolate cake--it's got more than one ingredient.
Let's take a look at the whole plan of salvation:
Psalm 119:41 VAU. Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word.
John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Mark 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Romans 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
2 Peter 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
An Overview
What must we do then? First we must believe in Jesus, not just
as one way to salvation, but as the one and only way to attain eternal
life. If we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and choose to accept
His mercy on our life, then we must do what He told us to do in order to
be saved. To become a Christian we must repent of our sins and be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38). Baptism in the
name of Jesus Christ is the only way to have one's sins remitted.
After we have done this we must endure the wiles of the devil who would
have us turn back from our profession of faith. We are commanded
to live a godly life on this planet until the day we hear Jesus Christ
tell us, "...Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been
faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter
thou into the joy of thy Lord." (Matthew 25:21)
