Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, renamed under new constitution of 1992 after secession of 4 former Yugoslav republics (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Macedonia) from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia consists of the republics of Serbia (Srbija) and Montenegro (Crna Gora).

Yugoslavia occupies an area of about 102,000 sq.km/40,000 sq. miles (slightly larger than Kentucky) and it has about 11.5 million people (Serbs 63%, Albanians 14%, Montenegrins 6%, Hungarians 4%, other 13%).

It is bordered (clockwise from the North) by Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, (Former Yugoslav Republic of) Macedonia, Albania, Italy (maritime border on the Adriatic Sea), Croatia (maritime and a small land border), Bosnia and Hercegovina, and again by Croatia.

The federal capital is Belgrade. Other major cities are Nis, Novi Sad, and Pristina in Serbia, and Podgorica, Kotor and Budva in Montenegro.
