I'm trying to find out more information on my heritage with the Choctaw
and Cherokee nation. Especially to find my grandparents on the census lists. My
grandmother was Elizebeth Marie Yokum (b.Feb.3,1889 Galena,Missouri) and
Grandfather Arthur James Miller (b.Dec. 31, 1885). Her parents died when
she was two and was taken to an indian orphanage around what is now Grand
Lake The Cherokee according to my maps. Her brothers are George (b. Rogers,
AK) and John Yokum (b. Gold Dust, TN). I have been told that more information
can be found in Tahlequah, OK and at the Cherokee Nation Museum but am
not sure what Í should be looking or asking for. Contact me with
any info. or leads. Much appreciated. :>) runningbird

I like the site. We would be honored if you would visit our web site
whenever you have the opportunity, particularly our Newsletter page at:
http://members.xoom.com/senaa/index2.html We could use your alliance in
our fight to help the Dine'h of Big Mountain, Arizona, remain on their
sacred ancestral lands and get back their human, constitutional, and civil
rights. The Dine'h have been stripped of all rights, even the right to
life its lf, by the federal government in its attempts to get the Dine'h
off their land and onto the radiation contaminated land that the U.S. government
calls the "New Lands." What is the federal government's reason for doing
this to the Dine'h? Peabody Mining Company, coal, and the aquifer that
provides the only source of water at Black Mesa. Visit SENAA's Online Newsletter
at the above address, and you can see the photos and read the articles
and chronology of events that have led to the Dine'h people's plight. Visit
our video site at: http://www.freespeech.org/senaa/ and see for yourself
filmed documentation. The BIA has given the Dine'h the final deadline of
1 February 1999 to relocate from their sacred land to the uranium contaminated
"New Lands." The BIA has sworn that it will achieve a "Final Solution"
BEFORE the February 2000 deadline by any means that it deems necessary.
SENAA asks that you pray about this situation, ask for U-Ne-La-Nv-Hi to
guide you and to lend His power to the Dine'h and to those of us who have
taken up the challenge to stop the BIA from turning Big Mountain, Arizona,
into anothe Ruby Ridge, Waco, or W unded Knee. Like us, the Dine'h have
endured much. The Longest Walk, the raids and murders by white soldiers,
and everything in-between, is just as we, the Tsa-La-Gi, have suffered.
For the Dine'h, however, the war has never ended. It still rages. Think
about it, dear elders; and when you have thought about it and have prayed
about it, please lend your support to this cause. Wa-do (or "Sgi," as we
say in the East). Al

I am researching my family history and have a question about the relationship
of the Choctaws and the Cherokees. My great-great granmother was apparently
a Cherokee, but resided in the Choctaw nation reportedly because she was
allocated land and there wasn't room in the Cherokee nation, so she chose
the Choctaw. This comes from a quote from her in a newspaper article about
how she makes quilts....does this sound logical? I have been searching
the Choctaw records because of her living there, but was it possible for
a Cherokee to live in Choctaw area?

you the translation in Tsa-La-Gi. It gave you the translation both in the
Tsa-La-Gi symbols and in the phonetic spelling. The software also allowed
you to import one or both of the translatio s into word processing and
desktop publishing programs. I have been looking for this software for
over a month, and was wondering if you might be able to tell me where to
locate and download it. Any help would be helpful. My brother doesn't remember

The Cherokee Exiles Asssn. Inc. Houlton Maine 04730 intends to cram
the Dawes act right down the two recognized bands throats because they
have used it as a criminal device to steal our ancestors lands and money

I am very happy to see a Native American chat room devoted to my
people, it helps me to stay centered and keep in touch. Wa'Do! Also, I
need to find any information relating to the last names of Smith,Cox,Woody,orLynch.
My people came from Independence,VA and Fox. These are right near the North
Carolina border. Not only this, but I have a picture of my maternal g-grandfather,
which is definately Native American. My paternal side also had Cherokee
blood, but as best as I can figure, Iam about 1/4 - 1/3 Che okee total,
but probably more. My soul walks in two worlds, I would like to find my
people so that I might come home to my true home with the Cherokee. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
