Lead Safe Homes Initiative

The City of Kankakee Lead Safe Homes Initiative began in 1995. In 1993 the Kankakee County Health Department (KCHD) approached the City about the alarming number of lead poisoning among it's young children. Cooperative efforts between the CDA and KCHD were formed and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Lead Hazard Control awarded the City a $1,250,000.00 Grant.
