Homepage of Aletta Karsies van Eeden

Welcome to my homepage!

I am a scientist specialized in molecular plant virology. However, currently I am not working in science, but am 'employed' by our daughters.
Since finishing my last job, I got involved in several organisations in Basel. I work as a volunteer at JuKiBu, a library for kids and youngsters with books in 50 languages. I am the webmaster and the organizer of the Focus on Careers initiative of the Professional Women's Group of Basel. Further I maintain the website for the Vereniging Nederland - Bazel and I have been a member of the executive committee of Tiny Tots daycare Verein for two years.
Until September 2003 I worked as a postdoc in the group of Manfred Heinlein (Intercellular communication in plants). We were situated at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel, Switzerland until April 2003. Then the group moved to the Botanical Institute of the University of Basel

I got married to Sjoerd on October 26th 2001, and we moved to a bigger appartment in Riehen. Have a look at a few wedding pictures here. After all those changes, the biggest change arrived on friday the 14th of June 2002. After 15 hours labour, I gave birth to a beautiful daughter.
Her name is Ilse Femke van Eeden. click to see many more pictures
On Tuesday July 20th, 2004 she got a sister, who arrived after less than 2 hours of labour! Her name is Nina Geri van Eeden.
Since 2005 I am maintaining family-weblog, so have a look there to see how we are doing now (in dutch, but with many pictures).

Because Ilse's arrival kept us at home during the summer of 2002, we took some vacation before, and went to the south of France for a week camping in the beginning of May.

I went to a conference in South Africa in August 2001, and I made a page with pictures I made there (a.o. panorama of Cape Town and Table Mountain)
Sjoerd has some more nice, rotating panorama's on his page.
