National Flag of the Republic of Cuba, also known as the "Lone-star Banner". Designed by Narciso Lopez The equilateral triangle symbolizes equility. The colour red stands for the blood shed by the patriots during the Wars of Independence. The three blue bars symbolize the departmental divisions of the country during the Colonial period (Occidental, Central and Oriental). The white bars symbolize purity. The lone star represents the sovereignity of Cuba as a free and independent nation. This flag was flown for the first time in the city of Cardenas on May 19, 1850.
