It was believed that she assumed the form of a cat when she came to earth. She also shares with cats the quality of once having been a wild cat whose more undomestic characteristics were gradually tamed, and shares a cat's agility and grace.
Bastet has a dualistic nature; docile –and aggressive. While performing her gentle duties, including protector of the home and pregnant women, her personality is warm, exhibiting the life giving power of the sun.
Her aggressive side was attributed to her blazing fires, her vicious natures shown when she slaughters her enemies with no mercy. She was Ra's (the sun god) instrument of vengeance.
